The Composable Future of Zora Creator Coins

Beyond its app, Zora’s real magic is its open infrastructure, which is powering new experiments around creator coins.

A few weeks back, I wrote about how you might approach buying Zora creator coins.

The Zora tokenomics flywheel here (content coincreator coin$ZORA) notably directs value straight to users. It's a martian angel compared to mainstream social media giants who constantly harvest our data for untold sums.

But creator-aligned tokenomics are just one of Zora's aces. Another is open composability. With creator coins and their infra onchain, third-party devs can openly build new experiences around them, bringing more network effects to Zora and more options for creators.

For example, consider Backstage. Presented by Linda Xie, Maaria Bajwa, and David Blumenfeld as an ETHGlobal hackathon project, the platform is akin to Patreon for creator coins. Underpinned by Base, IPFS, and Privy, Backstage lets you post exclusive content that can be unlocked by fans who hold customizable amounts of your creator coin.

Another case study here is Paragraph. The onchain publishing platform recently added the ability to tokenize posts with its own native coins system. And thanks to an even newer update, you can now pair your Zora creator coin with your Paragraph article coins whenever you go to publish posts. It's among the first embraces of creator coins beyond Zora, and it demonstrates how these coins can function as a new kind of onchain social primitive.

There's plenty more happening, too. Base's Youssef just introduced the Zora Coins Agent, which lets AI handle creator coin buys. Memecoin launchpad Flaunch is on the verge of activating imports of creator coins. Trading tools like Matcha, Sigma, and zSignals have already added support. Zora's mobile app is one of the best in crypto, but the real magic is all the remixing that can happen around Zora's tech. Expect many more extensions to come in the months ahead!
