Preparing for the Wayfinder $PROMPT Token
On Monday, I walked you through the basics of Daydreams, a framework coming to ai16z’s Eliza v2 codebase that will power AI agents that can dynamically think, code, and act on their own.
This sort of system has huge potential for the onchain gaming scene, DeFi, and beyond.
But there’s another project in this ballpark, Wayfinder, that’s also coming to the fore and also aiming to level up agents for onchain environments in a big way.
Yet while Daydreams isn’t centered around tokenomics, Wayfinder is notably designed to revolve around $PROMPT, and the upcoming token generation event (TGE) in Q1 2025 is shaping up to be one of the largest token launches of the year.
With the intrigue mounting here, let’s run back a refresher on what Wayfinder is, how it works, and how to stake $PRIME to earn $PROMPT.
What is Wayfinder
In April 2023, Stanford researchers released a paper detailing a case study where 25 AI players simulated humans in an RPG town.
That research inspired the creators of the Parallel trading card game to begin experimenting on an AI-centric game, which in time coalesced into official development of the upcoming Parallel Colony title.
The idea was to make a new kind of game where human players can steer and earn from always-on gaming agents that have unique personalities, learn from their experiences, accumulate resources onchain, and influence and battle one another.
To build Colony as they envisioned it, the Parallel team decided to build their own bespoke AI infrastructure.
This decision led to the publication of the Wayfinder whitepaper and the release of the Wayfinder platform, which is live but currently in closed alpha testing as its infra is still being developed.
All that said, Colony inspired the creation of Wayfinder, but Wayfinder isn't just designed to power Colony or games. The system is chain-agnostic, and once it's opened up, it will facilitate onchain agents toward a variety of ends across a range of networks like Ethereum, Solana, Base, and beyond.
How Wayfinder works
In the Wayfinder ecosystem, users can spin up agents to interact with blockchain apps on their behalf.
Imagine things like swapping, minting, bridging, deploying, etc. but executed by typing natural language commands to an agent rather than having to manually click through these actions yourself.
To help its agents navigate onchain environments, Wayfinder makes use of Wayfinding Paths, which are predefined workflows. These paths are like roadmaps, acting as navigational guides for specific goals, e.g. completing a crosschain DeFi yield strategy.
This design leads to a continuously growing knowledge graph that serves as a form of collective memory for Wayfinder agents, allowing them to self-improve over time without repeating mistakes or starting decisions from scratch.
At the heart of it all is $PROMPT, the upcoming native gas token of Wayfinder. The token can be staked to propose and maintain Wayfinding Paths, with rewards from new path bounties or usage fees. $PROMPT will also likely be used to buy premium agent features, like expanded storage and so forth.
Caching $PRIME to earn $PROMPT
The total planned supply of $PROMPT is 1 billion tokens, and 45% of that supply is slated to be distributed to community members who cache, or stake, Parallel's $PRIME token within Wayfinder.
Caching opened in June 2024 and will run through June 2027. The longer you lock-up your tokens, the bigger score multiplier you'll receive toward your eventual $PROMPT allocation.
It's too early to tell what exactly the yield will look like here yet, but it certainly could prove substantial if the market cap of $PROMPT rises into the billions of dollars.
If you're interested in dabbling or diving in here, you'll just need some $PRIME on Ethereum or Base. Then you could follow these steps:
- 📡 Go to cache.wayfinder.ai
- 📝 Log in by signing the verification message with your wallet
- ▶️ Press the “Cache PRIME” button, then press “Cache PRIME” again
- ⚠️ Review the caution pop-up about selecting a lock-up period, then press “I Understand” — be sure not to stake any funds that you can't afford to have immediate access to!
- 🔢 Input your desired PRIME amount to cache in the provided interface and press "Next Step"
- ⌛ Select your desired lock-up period, starting from 21 days up to 3 years, then press the “Preview PRIME Cache” button
- ✅ Make a final review of your settings, then press “Cache PRIME” and complete the caching transaction with your wallet to finish up
- 🧮 Once you’re locked in, you can track your scores and badges or make deposits or withdrawals (once your cache period ends) from Wayfinder’s “Overview” page
The big picture
Wayfinder and ai16z's Daydreams tech go after the same problem, i.e. how to make onchain agents that can continuously learn and independently act to complete complex goals.
This dynamic makes both of these innovations hugely promising for onchain games, but also for every other sector in crypto.
The main difference here are the unique architectural approaches. Wayfinder centers around Wayfinder Paths and $PROMPT staking, while Daydreams centers around Hierarchical Task Networks (HTNs) and bears no direct tokenomics angle that I'm aware of—at least not currently.
That said, if you're a fan of S-tier crypto gaming and you're interested in AI, and you expect these categories to become much more popular and to cross-pollinate much further over the next few years, I think caching $PRIME for $PROMPT is among the most interesting opportunities around right now.
In the meantime, stay tuned to Parallel's and Wayfinder's social accounts for updates on the rollouts of Colony and Wayfinder in the coming months—these will be must-try experiences for all onchain adventurers, in my opinion.
