PayPal and Venmo are now allowing U.S. users to make crypto transfers via ENS addresses

What’s the Scoop?

  • Easier Payments: American using the crypto transfer functionalities of popular payment applications PayPal and Venmo can now send token payments in-app to ENS addresses, eliminating the need to copy and paste cumbersomely long strings of text.
  • Adoption Opp: “We are excited to bring ENS’ naming capabilities directly into the hands of millions of users, through Venmo, PayPal Mobile, and PayPal Web,” said Khori Whittaker, executive director of ENS Labs. “As the world of digital assets becomes more mainstream, our goal is to ensure managing those assets is as intuitive and user-friendly as possible.”

Bankless Take:

Mnemonic ENS addresses are undeniably easier to recollect and input than standard public keys; any Ethereum-based crypto payments application must support the standard. The PayPal and Venmo integrations are being celebrated as a win by Etherians, meanwhile, the broader crypto industry remains optimistic that payments have the potential to catalyze mainstream adoption.
