Tool Tip: Onchain Publishing with Paragraph

Paragraph is redefining online publishing with onchain tools that let writers tap into Ethereum’s open creative economy.

Mainstream publishing platforms like Beehiv and Substack have good features and good UX. There's no denying that.

Yet as an onchain publishing platform, Paragraph offers things its larger peers can't, like open payments with no middlemen and open composability with all of the Ethereum ecosystem's crypto legos.

Plus, the frontend above the underlying protocol is slick, too, and will be familiar to anyone who's posted longform content anywhere online before. The project's worth another look, particularly with its newest release...

Writer coins

In July 2025, Paragraph introduced post coins.

This feature gave writers the ability to earn without ads or paywalls by tokenizing their articles. Conversely, it gave readers the ability to support their favorite writers in buying $1, $5, or +$10 increments of coined posts.

Advancing upon this approach, the Paragraph team just unveiled writer coins this week. This system is analogous to "creator coins," a.k.a. tokenized profiles, on Zora and their relationship to Zora content coins.

In other words, on Paragraph a writer can now pair their writer coin with all their post coin releases, creating a tight ecosystem of tokens. And readers can now choose to directly support their favorite writers at the article level, the profile level, or both.

The floodgates aren't open here yet. Brandon Donelly's BRANDON and ETH Daily's DAILY are the first writer coins to launch, but more will arrive continuously over the weeks ahead.

Onchain legos

Writer coins and post coins support direct patronage, i.e. open payments, without having to deal with centralized cards or high platform fees.

But another reason Paragraph is compelling to creators is because of its open composability, which comes from being onchain alongside other onchain culture and money legos.

For instance, you don't have to wait be invited to launch a writer coin to pair a personal token against your Paragraph posts. You can already do this today by pairing your Zora creator coin with your articles. This avenue is open to you as Paragraph and Zora are open to each other.

That said, another composability avenue here is how the Paragraph team built a mini app for Farcaster's onchain social network.

Farcaster has a very active, hardcore userbase of experienced crypto veterans, and the Paragraph mini app lets you easily reach these users in-feed without them ever leaving Farcaster. They can read, subscribe, and buy your post coins without any hassle. That's powerful, and it's possible because Paragraph and Farcaster are open to each other.

I'll give you a related personal anecdote. Today, I posted a longform X article, "Midjourney Style Primer."

Farcaster supports quote-cast embeds of regular X tweets just fine, but the app doesn't support native X article embeds for now. So in this Farcaster cast below, notice how only the link to my X article appears, not an embed of the post (note: I uploaded the graphic myself).

This route is fine if you're in a hurry, but it doesn't offer Farcaster readers the benefit of a native embedded mini app where they can read articles directly within their feeds or pay to support posts they enjoy straight from their Farcaster wallets in seconds.

As such, if I wanted to better reach Farcaster users, I could upload this X article into Paragraph and publish it there (which I do plan to do later!). Then I could take my article's Paragraph link and share it on Farcaster where it would natively embed as an easy-to-surf mini app in my cast, like so:

Slick UX

Beyond open payments and open composability, the Paragraph website itself offers lots of useful functionalities. These include:

These pillars aren't all that Paragraph offers, but they're certainly enough to make the platform worth serious consideration with regard to migrating to it, even for people who aren't crypto experts.

Anyone can use Paragraph, and anyone can earn here. So whether you have new content you're planning or old content that you want a new home for, this platform is the best place to put your words onchain right now in my estimation. Worth a try, I think!
