Crypto Christmas Gift Ideas for 2022

A “holiday gifts” output I created with Stable Diffusion

You’re making a list, you’re checking it twice 🎄
It’s that time of year again, and you’re getting all your gift ideas together.

If you’re reading Bankless right now, chances are that you’re more of a crypto power user (or you’re well on your way!) and have at least a few people in your life who would be good fits for crypto-centric gifts this year.

What are the best crypto gift ideas, then?

The answer will vary from person to person, but the good news is you’ve got plenty of possibilities to choose from right now. Here are eight different avenues of crypto gifts you can consider for the 2022 holiday season ⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️

1) Crypto 💎

Coinbase has a specific gifting flow

A small sum of crypto is one gift avenue you can consider for the crypto novices or the crypto veterans in your life.

Consider ETH. It’s not only valuable, it’s directly useful in the cryptoeconomy where it’s good for buying and minting NFTs, covering your DeFi gas fees, earning yield, and beyond. Awesome gift potential, right?

If you do decide to directly gift crypto this holiday season, Coinbase is a great place to start because it has a dedicated crypto gifting flow in both its mobile and web apps. Additionally, the popular exchange also just launched digital crypto gift cards in collaboration with Slide.

Alternatively, if you’re interested in gifting crypto directly to an existing wallet, MoonPay is a service that lets you do so via credit or debit card purchases.

2) Crypto books 📖

There are some excellent crypto books out that would be a great choice for anyone in your life who’s crypto curious and also a big reader.

For instance, Ethereum creator Vitalik Buterin recently published Proof of Stake: the Making of Ethereum and the Philosophy of Blockchains, a collection of his writings from the past decade.

Out of the Ether by Matthew Leising and The Infinite Machine by Camila Russo are also fantastic page-turning reads about the early days of Ethereum that I consider must-haves.

If hands-on guides and tutorials are more suitable for your giftee, be sure to check out How to DeFi and How to NFT by CoinGecko and Mastering Ethereum by Andreas Antonopoulos and Gavin Wood!

3) Hardware wallets 💰

Not your keys? Not your crypto. If you don’t control your own wallet’s private keys, then ultimately you don’t control your crypto.

Fortunately, hardware wallets are physical devices that make it easy to safely manage your crypto keys for the long-term. These wallets are practical, they’re secure, and they’re proven. Some models I’ve used and can personally recommend include:

4) Merch 👚

Look for ETH and NFT merch on Etsy and Redbubble

Crypto merch can be awesome stocking stuffer material. Hats, hoodies, shirts, socks… — you name it and you can likely find a range of crypto-themed options on sites like Etsy and Redbubble, which are independent creator platforms that have lots of crypto goodies to choose from.

5) NFTs 🎴

Last week, I wrote a Metaversal post about a range of different NFT holiday gift ideas that were available for ~0.01 ETH each.

Unless your giftee is a crypto pro themselves, I’d avoid sending really valuable NFTs. The good news is you can keep things affordable and low stakes because there are a lot of neat NFT gift options out there for around ~$10 worth of ETH right now.

If you are interested in going this route, I’d say consider an NFT starter pack of something commemorative, something fun, and something useful. For instance, the commemorative gift could be an inexpensive PFP NFT whose traits remind you of your giftee.

My advice for PFP hunting? Go to Blur and scroll down until you find collection’s whose floors are ~0.01 ETH

The fun gift could be an OKPC, which is an on-chain digital art toy that lets you draw new visuals for your NFT like an Etch-a-Sketch. Finally, the useful gift could be a 5+ letter ENS domain name, which costs ~0.009Ξ to mint.

6) NFT displays 🖼️

If you’ve got a friend who’s already into NFT collecting, then physical NFT displays are an amazing avenue to consider.

One company in this sector is Infinite Objects, whose NFT printing process starts at $120 USD. Another popular choice for physicalized NFTs is Tokenframe, whose displays start at $333 USD.

7) Memberships ✅

The cryptoeconomy has all sorts of powerful analytics services that offer premium memberships for premium resources.

That said, a growing number of these services are starting to track their memberships in web3 native fashion through NFTs. You can buy these NFTs and send them as gifts if you wish!

For example, WGMI is an awesome analytics dashboard for real-time NFT collection data. Lifetime access to WGMI’s basic features can be unlocked through WGMI Premium Membership NFTs, which cost ~0.009Ξ on OpenSea right now.

Another service that comes to mind here is Flips.Finance, an excellent NFT analytics dashboard whose Flips Gold Passes unlock full and unlimited access to the entire Flips suite.

8) Raspberry Pi 🖥️

A Raspberry Pi 4 is a small and low-cost DIY computing device that’s 8 GB version has enough resources to run an Ethereum node! If your giftee is technically inclined, a Raspberry Pi is one interesting gift avenue that can give them the foundation for a cool and useful crypto project to work on.

‘Tis the Season 🎅

Gifting this holiday season offers a way to bring unique and special experiences to the crypto lovers in your life. From books to NFTs to Raspberry Pis, there’s definitely a little something for everyone out there. Whatever your gift list ends up looking like, you better start getting a move on since Christmas is now only three weeks away!
