The Solana Foundation confirmed that Firedancer, a new validator client developed by Jump Crypto, officially went live on Friday after more than three years of development.

What’s the Scoop?

  • Client diversity: Firedancer introduced a new, independent codebase for Solana validators, reducing the risk that a single software bug could halt the network. Until now, over 95% of validators ran Agave or Agave-Jito, both derived from Solana Labs’ original client.
  • Production-ready: Jump Crypto said Firedancer had already been running in production on a limited set of validators for roughly 100 days. It had initially targeted a Q2 2024 launch.
  • Performance focus: Written in C, Firedancer used a modular, tile-based architecture designed to better exploit modern hardware and push Solana toward its long-stated goal of 1 million transactions per second.
