What Is MagicBlock?
Bankless Author: William M. Peaster

Onchain game engines make it easier to build games with no external dependencies beyond their underlying blockchain.

To me, this is one of the most exciting areas of development in crypto today, and that’s why my curiosity was piqued when I recently came across MagicBlock Engine.

MagicBlock is a game engine that’s innovated an Ephemeral Rollups architecture, which is designed for powering flexible and performant onchain games atop Solana.

I think MagicBlock is an interesting taste of what’s to come in the Solana gaming scene, so let’s catch you up on all the basics here! 👇

TOOL TIP
Sound Capsules
via Sound Capsules

ERC-6551 paved the way to token-bound accounts, i.e. NFTs as smart wallets that can hold other NFTs.

One project that’s putting this functionality to interesting musical use is Sound Capsules, a simple audio player platform for creating token-bound playlists on Base.

In other words, each of the 10,000 mintable Sound Capsule NFTs are designed to hold music NFTs that their owners curate. To add music, you transfer Zora music mints to your Sound Capsule’s smart wallet via the “Manage” page.

Additionally, each Sound Capsule can be sold as a complete playlist. All contents within the Sound Capsule will be sold along with the NFT if transferred to another wallet!

To me, it’s experiments like this that point toward a future renaissance around music NFTs, so it’s worth exploring if you’re keen to get a glimpse of where things seem to be heading here.
