Redeeming $BASED with Base Introduced NFTs
Bankless Author: William M. Peaster

When the testnet of Base was first launched in February 2023, the Layer 2 (L2) scaling solution's team released a commemorative NFT mint, Base Introduced.

The open edition was collected more than 485,000 times by over 370,000 wallets, making it one of the most widely distributed NFTs ever so far!

Take note, then, because a new memecoin experiment is using these NFTs as a proxy for creating an unofficial Base token, $BASED, that will launch on the L2 in August 2024.

Let's walk through the basics in case you're interested in diving in and redeeming a $BASED allocation! 👇

TOOL TIP
Firefly
via Firefly

I've been posting more to Twitter and Farcaster lately, and if you're looking to up your posting game too, consider checking out Firefly.

Built by the Mask Network team, Firefly is a new social aggregator app that feeds content from, or lets you post content to, X, Farcaster, and Lens simultaneously.

A similar app in this ballpark is Yup, which I've tried and enjoyed, but in my opinion, Firefly offers a slightly more familiar user experience than Yup. That said, I give Firefly the edge here, at least right now.

Also, keep in mind that if you don't already have Farcaster or Lens accounts, you can mint a Firefly Pass to get free handles on both platforms. Worth a try, I say!
