Proton Mail Maker Debuts Bitcoin Wallet
Privacy-focused software suite Proton launched early access for their Proton Wallet for Bitcoin self-custody today.
What's the scoop?
- Self-Custody and Security: Proton Wallet begins as a self-custodial, open-source Bitcoin wallet with end-to-end encryption. The wallet also offers services for buying Bitcoin in 150+ countries and a Bitcoin guide for newcomers.
- Bitcoin Over Email: Proton Wallet allows Bitcoin to be sent to other Proton emails and Proton accounts as long as both parties have Proton Wallets.
- Enhanced Security Features: The wallet also uses advanced security measures like 2FA and Proton Sentinel, a security program that notifies users at higher risk of cyberattack.
Bankless Take:
Proton Wallet is a perfect product for Proton to offer within its suite of privacy-focused software, joining the leagues of its email, calendar, drive, password protector, and VPN. Its direct integration into email also continues the same trend as Solana Blinks—crypto-native tools that directly augment existing web services rather than creating a new layer of them. While still in early access and exclusive only to Proton Visionary and Lifetime users right now, hopefully, the public offering will be rolled out soon. In the meantime, try to flag one of these users down since they have limited invites to Proton Wallet they can share with others.
