Major League Baseball (MLB) is entering the prediction market arena with a pair of deals aimed at combating threats to sport betting integrity.

What's the Scoop?

  • New Partners: According to an ESPN report, MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred on Thursday named Polymarket as the league's official prediction market exchange and announced an information sharing agreement with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, the federal derivatives regulator that oversees prediction markets.
  • Restricted Approach: In hopes of preventing prediction market manipulation by insiders (the MLB found itself ridiculed by a pitch fixing crisis last year), the MLB and Polymarket will establish an integrity framework that restricts markets more vulnerable to manipulation, such as individual pitches and decisions by managers or umpires.
  • Exclusive Rights: The sponsorship deal will grant Polymarket the rights  to use MLB marks and logos on its platform, and official data from Sportradar to help resolve markets.
