Plasma launched Plasma One today, its mobile-based stablecoin banking app for saving, sending, earning, and spending digital dollars through a Visa card, with a three-tier membership system utilizing the chain's native token, XPL.

What's the Scoop?

  • The Launch Deal: Users who join in the first seven days get Core free for their first year, which Plasma pegs at more than $1,000 in annual value. Access is currently reserved for XPL holders, making the launch both a consumer product rollout and a direct utility push for Plasma’s native token.
  • Membership Tiers: Plasma One offers three tiers—Lite (free, with 2% cashback, a virtual card, and up to 5% stablecoin yield), Core (3% cashback plus 5% on AI spending, priority perks, and ChatGPT Go for $120/year or a 10,000 XPL lock), and Platinum (premium travel, AI, and cashback benefits including up to 10% AI and flight rewards, available by locking 100,000 XPL).
  • Two Sides of Using a Token: Tiered access makes XPL the key to Plasma One’s best perks, however at current XPL prices, the juice does not look worth the squeeze. Plasma, which requires locking 100,000 XPL, advertises ~$10,000 in annual value, though 100,000 XPL costs $12,000 currently. Further, 75% of that $10,000 value from cashback that requires $187,500 spent annually to maximize the cashback benefits.
