PayPal launched a new peer-to-peer payments feature called PayPal Links on Monday, allowing users to send money through messaging apps – and soon, crypto. Initially available for dollar transfers in the U.S., the feature will expand to support Bitcoin, Ethereum, PYUSD, and other tokens “soon,” with international rollout slated for later this month.

What’s the Scoop?

  • Crypto Integration Incoming: PayPal Links will soon let users send Bitcoin, Ethereum, PYUSD, and more via text, DM, or email. Supported wallets will include PayPal, Venmo, and other crypto-compatible wallets.
  • U.S. First, Then Global: The tool launched Monday in the U.S. for dollar payments and will expand to the U.K., Italy, and other markets later this month.
  • No 1099-K Tax Forms: Crypto transfers between friends and family via PayPal and Venmo will be exempt from 1099-K reporting requirements – one of the rollout’s key selling points.
  • Bigger Crypto Push: This follows PayPal’s broader crypto expansion, including support for over 100 crypto assets for merchants, PYUSD yield products, and a growing focus on stablecoin infrastructure post-GENIUS Act.
