OpenClaw – an open- source agent development platform whose founder was recruited by Sam Altman's OpenAI – sparked consternation on X after its founder doubled down on a strict policy that bans all mentions of "crypto" in Discord.

What's the Scoop?

  • No Crypto Content: OpenClaw creator Peter Steinberger reiterated his company's strict ban on all crypto content. The statement comes after a user complained to X Saturday that they were blocked from the OpenClaw Discord server for saying "bitcoin." According to Steinberger, OpenClaw Discord requires all users to agree to not mention crypto before joining.
  • Community Conversations: In response to the absolute ban, some on Crypto Twitter have taken to contemplating why certain groups are prone to discrimination against blockchain technology. According to an interview with Steinberger, the blanket ban was designed to reduce spam and prevent scams.
  • Role Change: Last week, Steinberger joined OpenAI and announced that OpenClaw will transition into a foundation structure.
