Onchain Pet Battler Kamigotchi Nears Mainnet

Something that should be on your radar in my opinion? Kamigotchi's upcoming mainnet launch.
Kamigotchi itself is a fully onchain pet strategy game that the indie game studio Asphodel has been developing over the past couple of years.

The project raised a seed round in March 2025 and later that month concluded its second playtest on the testnet of its bespoke chain, Yominet.
In my opinion, it's among the most interesting efforts in the onchain gaming scene today, and now the game is preparing to officially go live as Asphodel is on the verge of launching Yominet on Initia.

Initia has been flying under the radar in crypto, but its mainnet launch is also coming and Kamigotchi's Yominet chain will be one of the first ecosystem deployments here.
For its part, Initia is a new Layer 1 blockchain built atop the Cosmos SDK that's designed to serve as an orchestration layer for a network of modular appchains, or “interwoven rollups.”
In other words? It's a coordination hub for shared liquidity, security, and interoperability, and it supports multiple virtual machines like the EVM, MoveVM, and Wasm.
With data availability by Celestia under the hood and Initia’s framework handling execution and routing, the infra is geared toward supporting an ecosystem of high-performance onchain apps, e.g. games like Kamigotchi, Battle for Blockchain, Civitia, etc.

Plus, Initia appchains like Yominet will become ecosystems themselves—in Yominet's case, it will be home to future titles built by Asphodel, including their eponymous long-term MMORPG vision, Asphodel.
All that said, to prep for the upcoming releases here, I recommend getting started with some basic research:
- 🧠 Learn about Kamigotchi's journey so far and Initia's airdrop plans
- 👾 Read Kamigotchi's docs and HammerToesKnows's guide to catch up on the gameplay basics
- 🪢 Bookmark Initia's docs for future reference
Next stop, then? Mainnet.
