Lubin Says MetaMask Native Token Coming Soon
After years of speculation, MetaMask’s native token is finally on the way, according to Consensys CEO Joe Lubin. Speaking on a podcast with The Block, Lubin said the token could arrive “sooner than you would expect” and confirmed that it’s part of a broader plan to decentralize key parts of the MetaMask ecosystem.
What’s the Scoop?
- MASK Is Real and Imminent: Lubin said the token will play a role in the decentralization of the MetaMask platform. “It may come sooner than you would expect right now,” he told The Block.
- Part of a Bigger Push: The MASK token follows the recent launch of LINEA, the native token of Consensys’ Ethereum Layer 2 network. That drop distributed over 9.3 billion LINEA to users, with 15% retained by the company and the rest directed toward builders, liquidity, and community incentives.
- Decentralization at the Core: Lubin emphasized that the company’s work across MetaMask, Infura, and Linea is all part of a push toward “rigorous decentralization” in the Ethereum ecosystem.
