Kamala Harris' campaign is not directly accepting crypto donations, but the Future Forward PAC has been established to receive crypto contributions on her behalf.

What's the scoop?

  • Campaign Miscommunication: Coinbase CFO Alesia Haas's statements suggested the Harris campaign was using Coinbase Commerce for crypto donations, but this was later clarified.
  • Crypto in Politics: The Future Forward PAC, which raised over $163M for Harris' campaign, has a history of supporting Democratic candidates, including contributing $150M toward Joe Biden's 2020 victory.
  • Historical Context: Future Forward also received funds from FTX executives during the 2022 midterms but may still have to forfeit them due to Sam Bankman-Fried’s criminal charges.

Bankless Take:

Given how lucrative accepting crypto donations have been for Trump, it’s surprising Harris’s campaign continues to be so reluctant to simply add crypto as a fundraising option. This recent clarification that donations can happen via Future Forward suggests Harris may be worried about spooking her current supporters by accepting crypto directly, instead being willing to do it through an intermediary. Overall, though, this keeping crypto at arm's length does not spark hope around Harris’s interest in progressive crypto policy.
