Ethereum’s largest testnet, Holesky, will shut down in September due to validator issues, replaced by the newly launched Hoodi network.

What’s the Scoop?

  • Testnet Closure: Ethereum will discontinue its largest test network, Holesky, following challenges with the upcoming Pectra upgrade.
  • New Testnet Replacement: Hoodi, a newly launched test network, will replace Holesky and facilitate upgrades like Pectra.
  • Validator Issues: Inactivity leaks in Holesky caused significant congestion, making it unsuitable for validator lifecycle testing.
  • Timeline: Holesky will begin winding down operations immediately, with full deprecation set for September 30.
