Ethereum core developers have announced December 3 as the target date for the Fusaka mainnet launch, the network’s next major hard fork focused on scalability, decentralization, and performance. The timeline was shared during the ACDC #165 developer call, with final testnet activations scheduled throughout October.

What’s the Scoop?

  • Testnet rollout: Fusaka will activate on Holesky on October 1, Sepolia on October 14, and Hoodi on October 28. Developers plan to reconfirm precise timing and epoch numbers in the coming days.
  • Blob scalability: The upgrade introduces Peer Data Availability Sampling, allowing validators to verify blob data by sampling from peers rather than downloading full datasets. Blob capacity is expected to double within two weeks of activation.
  • Gas increase: The block gas limit will rise from 30M to 150M, enabling more transactions per block and supporting higher network throughput.
  • Next upgrade: Ethereum’s following hard fork, Glamsterdam, is slated for 2026. It will likely include the EVM Object Format (EOF), and potentially faster block times.

Bankless Take:

Upgrades to a crypto economic network that stores hundreds of billions of dollars cannot be hurried. Although devs are optimistic for an early December implementation of Fusaka, it remains possible that this timeline will be delayed.
