EigenLayer’s official Twitter account was hacked earlier today, and circulated a link promoting a false reallocation of EIGEN tokens.

What's the scoop?

  • Security Alert: Blockchain sleuth ZachXBT warned users not to engage with the posts after noticing that the account had been compromised with malicious links.
  • Official Response: Eigen Labs advised users to verify interactions through the official domain, eigenlayer.xyz, and promised an update once the account is secured.

Bankless Take:

EigenLayer has been having a hard time with security, as this Twitter hack follows an earlier selloff of their tokens after an investor’s email was phished. Crypto social media accounts have always been high-profile targets for scammers. Though it's unclear at this point how the account was commandeered, there are various actions protocols can take to minimize risks here. This latest attack serves as just the latest reminder to always be vigilant as you navigate crypto — use cold storage and triple-check all of the links that you’re clicking.
