What sort of valuable insights lie hidden in old, overlooked smart contracts?
Recently, artist Takens Theorem repurposed an obscure 2018 ERC20 vulnerability to revive Yigit Duman's Rothko on Pennies, a fully onchain NFT artwork that had been rendered invisible.
It's a prime example of how exploring uncelebrated smart contracts can open pathways to new achievements and experiments.
For today's post, let's dive into what exactly happened with Duman's piece, and why it matters in the context of making the exceptional out of the unexceptional in crypto! 👇

Made by the team behind the onchain pixel art platform Dot, Chains is a new game on Base that combines trading card game (TCG) and real-time strategy (RTS) elements.
- 🎴 To start, players collect Dot cards—unique pieces of onchain art created by the Dot community—and transform them into battle-ready units.
- 🎨 Each card belongs to a specific team based on its dominant color, encouraging teamwork as players strategically place units to build and extend chains on the game board.
- 🧮 Points accumulate through a Fibonacci scoring system, so the idea is to ascend by creating the longest chains possible while disrupting rival teams’ placements.
- 🏆 After a bout ends, the top three teams on the leaderboard share the ETH prize pool, with rewards distributed among team members based on their contributions.
In my opinion, Chains is a slick experience that players of any skill level can dive right into, so it’s worth a try if you’re on the hunt for new adventures on Base.
It’s also a great way to demo your new Coinbase Smart Wallet if you’ve recently spun one up! If the game sounds of interest to you, you can get started at dot.fan/chains whenever you like.
